Overview
Physical and digital world bridging
- 3D scanners are measuring devices used to capture real-world objects or environments to be redesigned or analysed in the digital world. No contact with the physical object is necessary for the last generation of 3D scanners.
- 3D scanners for complete or partial 3D measurements of all physical objects can be used. In comparison to the traditional "point-by-point" measuring devices, the majority are extremely high-density points or measures.
OBJECTs for 3D purposes are usually scanned:
- Extract dimensions for reverse engineering or fast prototyping to reconstruct a CAD reference file.
- The analysis and documentation of the object itself. For applications such as CAI, digital archiving and CAE (computer-aided inspection). This is possible in a computational manner.
