Overview

3D laser scanning technology can collect a wide range of three-dimensional positions (X, Y, and Z coordinates or points) that give asset information. 3D laser scanners record accurate position information that can be utilized to identify true shape, geometry, deformation, and placements of interior structures in massive scale storage tanks and barges.

In a short amount of time, 3D laser scanners can acquire extremely accurate, true data. Data is collected and analyzed at the office or on a mobile computer to provide:

  • Simple coordinates of objects
  • Length measurements and diameters
  • Angular or tilt information
  • Shape information, such as roundness of objects
  • Area/volume measurements
  • Deformation, or change, in objects over time
  • Complex and in-depth tested solution will fulfil all assumptions for the long term, effective operation.

Due to the high density of measurements gathered, the 3D point cloud also provides a visual depiction of the scanned object in addition to geometric information. Some scanners may also take photographs, which can help to improve the quality of the data acquired. This visual record of areas examined, monitored, or for quality reporting of work completed gives a factual record of areas examined, monitored, or for quality reporting of work conducted.
